Our Mission: Kai Security for All
We are a non-profit group of Porirua locals, committed to the idea of ensuring Kai Security for this generation and the generations of the future.
We believe that Kai Gardens in Schools (at no cost to the schools) will provide the opportunity for children to feel the deep satisfaction available when they learn how to grow their own food.
Gardening for these children becomes a lifetime skill, and also becomes available to the children of the future.
We believe this is the most powerful way to ensure Kai Security as a counter to the future threat posed by climate change.
Our Story: Born from a Need
We participated in the exercise in Deliberative Democracy organized and supported by Ngati Toa, and other forward thinking groups within the Porirua Community. This Assembly focused on the imminent threats posed by Climate change, and we learned about the likelihood of Kai Insecurity. It became an overwhelming challenge to discover how to fight this problem. Hence the Kai Gardens for Porirua Schools was born.
What Makes Us Special
Schools have limited time and resources to create and maintain Kai gardens. We can find the professional support and funding within the community so that Schools are able to welcome a Kai Garden. These gardens will be a way to manage the threat of Kai Insecurity which comes with Climate Change.
We can find funding for Kai Gardens and Local Sponsorship so schools don't have to!
